If you are wanting to build your own greenhouse you will want to learn the basics of greenhouse building and look at lots of greenhouse plans. In this post I am sharing what I consider to be the best sources of greenhouse plans currently available. In another post I will offer a list of free resources for greenhouse plans.
Resources for Greenhouse Plans:
How to Build Your Own Greenhouse is probably the most popular book, available today, on building your own greenhouse. Chapters cover basic freestanding and extension designs for greenhouses, include lean-tos and garden shed blends, and discuss not only construction of independent structures, but how to incorporate them into an existing home. From floor to ceiling options, How To Build Your Own Greenhouse covers it all, includes design tips and basic plans, and is a pick for any library strong in homeowner’s or gardener’s construction references.
The Earth Sheltered Solar Greenhouse Book is a must read if you are considering building a solar greenhouse. The Earth-Sheltered Solar Greenhouse Book is the first to promote the benefits of both passive solar energy and earth sheltering in greenhouse design. This combination results in greenhouses which need no additional heating. The captured sun s energy and that which is stored in the earth is enough for successful year round harvest.
Building Your Own Greenhouse (Greenhouse Basics) is a good basic book on greenhouse design and building basics. Many of the greenhouse plans are very inexpensive to build. He also covers cold frames and “greenhouse windows”.
The COOL house plans company is an online resource for house plans as well as greenhouse plans. If you want to build a beautiful, as well as practical greenhouse, check out some of their plans.
The North Carolina Extension Service offer plans for an inexpensive 12′ by 14′ hoop style greenhouse. Download the free PDF here.
